Jack Bailey, a metal merchant based in Cheltenham, moved to the current premises in Gloucester in 1959.
1973 The company was reorganised and entered a period of sustained growth, resulting in the company becoming aluminium ingot producers.
1978 The Company was purchased by the S & W Beresford PLC. As a member of a large PLC the company grew rapidly as financial support was given for the development of an electric induction melting facility.
Completed in 1982, this facility augmented by the reverberatory foundry, provides the cornerstone to continued growth and provides total flexibility on a 24 hour production basis.
1986, the Company requiring more storage space, purchased a warehouse and office complex of some 25,000 sq.. ft situated on the same industrial estate.
This facility enabled the merchanting arm of the company to breathe freely as it could now buy and sell when commercially strategic and not because space was required within the confines of the production facility
1986 The Managing Director of Avon Metals Ltd, Mr Ian Craig, became Group Managing Director and David Evans, previously Purchasing Director of Tame Valley Alloys, was appointed MD.
1988 Avon Metals, along with the Secondary Metals Division of S & W Beresford Plc was taken private by Avon Holdings Ltd.
1989 A third induction furnace was acquired to satisfy an increasing demand for grain refiners and high temperature (@ 1500°C) hardener alloys.
1994 Harris baler installed to improve efficiency of raw material feed to furnaces.
1996 Fume extraction plant installed to reduce emissions from site.
2000 In December, Avon Metals was put into Administrative Receivership following the insolvent liquidation of sister company HH Wardle & financial difficulties of parent Avon Holdings Ltd.
Within 3 weeks of entering Receivership, the business and name of the company was aquired by Walter Reid of The Remet Company Ltd & the management team company Glevum Manco.
March 2005. Neil Jones, Sales Director and a well liked character within the metals industry sadly and suddenly died.
January 2006. Twin Induction complex installed to increase flexibility and volume of alloys produced.
February 2006. John Crowdy joins the team as Commercial Manager.
March 2006. MD David Evans resigned due to ill health.
April 2006. Remet aquires majority share in Glevum Manco. Steven Munnoch is appointed Managing Director & Steve Martin Sales Director.
April 2007. Avon Metals is conferred The Queen's Award for Enterprise 2007: International Trade.
